Ukraine’s Largest Fish Factory Expands River Fish Processing and Seeks Suppliers

Найбільший в Україні рибний завод планує переробляти українську річкову рибу і шукає постачальників.

Ukraine’s largest fish processing plant, Klion Group, located in Zaporizhzhia and known under the brand name Veladis, produces over 250 types of products: these include various canned goods, spreads, caviar, as well as fish burgers, sticks, and minced fish. Every minute, 60 cans of herring come off the production line, and the plant produces about 800 tons of finished products monthly. The factory employs 1,200 people, and its production capacity allows for a significant increase in output; however, the main barrier to this remains the lack of qualified personnel.

Plans for Processing Ukrainian River Fish

Despite the challenging conditions of wartime and proximity to the front, Klion Group sets ambitious development goals. The company aims to begin industrial processing of Ukrainian river fish, particularly silver carp, carp, and pike perch, in addition to imported fish. Currently, the company is actively seeking partners who can ensure stable supplies of these types of fish in the necessary volumes. They have already found their first supplier of silver carp in the Cherkasy region.

Own Fleet and Prospects for Fish Farming

A significant portion of the imported fish for Klion Group is caught by the company’s own vessels, which are based in Uruguay. Other product components, such as packaging, oil, and salt, are produced in Ukraine. After the war, the company plans to start its own fish farming in Ukraine, which will further strengthen its position in the domestic market.

“The factory is building ambitious development plans. In particular, in addition to imported fish, they plan to master the industrial processing of Ukrainian river fish, such as silver carp, carp, and pike perch.”
