Starting July 2026, the state program “Affordable Medicines” will significantly expand: an additional 51 new medications will be added to the list of medicinal products. “Affordable Medicines” will become broader: it will include 51 new medicinal products. The decision aims to enhance Ukrainians’ access to treatment for diseases that remain among the main causes of mortality in the country.
Which Medications Will Be Added to the Program
The new list includes medications for controlling blood pressure, treating heart failure, arrhythmia, preventing thrombosis, lowering cholesterol levels, as well as means for rehabilitation after a heart attack and preventing strokes. This will significantly expand the range of medications available to Ukrainians under favorable conditions.
Millions of Patients Have Already Benefited from the Program
Throughout the duration of the program, over six million Ukrainians have received free or partially reimbursed medications. In 2026 alone, nearly two million patients have utilized this state initiative. For the current year, the state has allocated 8.7 billion hryvnias for the implementation of the program — one of the largest budgets in the program’s history.
To obtain the necessary medications, patients need to consult their doctor, receive an electronic prescription, and visit a pharmacy participating in the program. Some medications are provided for free, while others come with partial reimbursement of costs.
The updated rules provide additional opportunities for Ukrainian pharmaceutical manufacturers. Preference in inclusion in the program will be given to those medications that meet quality standards and are offered at the lowest prices. Thus, the state not only increases the accessibility of treatment for patients but also supports the development of the domestic pharmaceutical industry.
