Ukrainian agriculture demonstrates resilience even in the face of a challenging spring and significant temperature fluctuations. According to forecasts, in 2026, the gross harvest of grain crops in Ukraine may reach 60.4 million tons. This figure is nearly identical to last year’s achievements and guarantees not only internal food security but also maintains Ukraine’s status as one of the leading global grain exporters.

“Together with carryover stocks, the market may form over 26 million tons of wheat, which will support exports and ensure the uninterrupted operation of the processing industry.”
Yield of Main Crops and Risks of the Sowing Campaign
According to Taras Vysotsky, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, the most stable crop this season remains wheat. Its harvest is expected to be around 22.4 million tons, significantly exceeding the country’s internal demand for food grain. Along with accumulated stocks, there may be over 26 million tons of wheat available in the market, ensuring export potential and stable operation of the domestic processing industry. Additionally, a harvest of 31.6 million tons of corn and approximately 4.7 million tons of barley is forecasted.
However, this year’s spring has posed a serious challenge for agricultural producers. Prolonged cold weather and excessive humidity in several regions have slowed down the pace of the sowing campaign, especially for late crops. The greatest risks are associated with the harvest of corn, which is sensitive to shifts in sowing dates and temperature fluctuations during the growing season. Despite this, farmers demonstrate high adaptability and the ability to find effective solutions even in difficult circumstances.
Development of Processing and Investment in Infrastructure
This year, Ukraine is focusing on the development of products with higher added value. An increasing number of domestic producers are ramping up grain processing volumes within the country. In particular, the production of flour, frozen baked goods, semi-finished products, and ready-made products for the HoReCa and Bake-off segments is actively growing. There is a steady demand for these products both in the domestic market and from foreign consumers.
At the same time, the Ukrainian agricultural business has significantly transformed in recent years: companies have established new logistics routes, invested in their own infrastructure, and enhanced flexibility in responding to market changes. This allows for more effective resistance to challenges even during periods of instability.
Ukraine has set the end of 2028 as the deadline for the full harmonization of agricultural production with the requirements of the European Union. This entails not only technical alignment of standards but also a deep structural transformation of the country’s agricultural sector.
