Ukrainian farmers plan to harvest about 60.4 million tons of grain in 2026, which corresponds to last year’s figures. This volume of harvest will fully meet the country’s internal needs and allow for the preservation of a high export potential.

Forecast for major grain crops
According to Taras Vysotsky, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, there will be a significant surplus of wheat in the market. With an internal demand of 6.4 million tons, the total supply, along with reserves, will reach approximately 26.6 million tons. The official emphasized that this creates all the conditions for Ukraine’s food security and supports exports.
“This not only guarantees the food security of the state but also preserves the export potential,” the official said.
Vysotsky also noted that this year’s spring sowing campaign has been more challenging due to a prolonged cold spring and excessive soil moisture, which has caused delays in sowing late crops.
Impact of weather conditions and detailed forecasts
Particular weather risks this season concern corn, as its yield largely depends on timely sowing, temperature conditions, and moisture levels during vegetation. However, forecasts for wheat and barley remain stable, allowing for reliable provision for domestic market needs and exports. According to preliminary estimates, the harvest of major grain crops may be as follows:
- wheat – about 22.4 million tons;
- barley – approximately 4.7 million tons;
- corn – up to 31.6 million tons.
Production of food-grade wheat suitable for processing into flour is forecasted at 9.1 million tons, and taking into account carryover stocks, the total supply may reach 11.7 million tons.
As of mid-May, Ukrainian farmers have already sown over 3.78 million hectares of spring grains and legumes, which is 63% of the planned area. Corn traditionally occupies the largest share – 2.4 million hectares. Additionally, 179.1 thousand hectares of wheat, 704.2 thousand hectares of barley, 256.2 thousand hectares of peas, 136.5 thousand hectares of oats, and 11.1 thousand hectares of millet have already been sown.
