Price Dynamics of Chicken in Supermarkets
Compared to July of this year, the average price of chicken thighs has decreased from approximately 140 hryvnias to 120 hryvnias per kilogram. A slight drop in price has also been noted for chicken fillets: while it previously cost 225 hryvnias per kilogram, it is now around 220 hryvnias per kilogram. However, not all items are showing a decrease in price.
Increase in Price of Chicken Drumsticks and Stable Cost of Whole Chickens
Unlike thighs and fillets, chicken drumsticks have become more expensive. The average price per kilogram of drumsticks has risen from 95 to 110 hryvnias, an increase of 15 hryvnias. As for whole chickens, their price has remained stable for several months, averaging 120 hryvnias per kilogram.
“In Ukrainian supermarkets, there is a decrease in the cost of chicken. Specifically, while chicken thighs were sold for approximately 140 hryvnias per kilogram in July, in August they are priced at ~120 UAH/kg, as indicated by data from the ‘Minfin’ portal.”
Changes in chicken prices are explained by various factors: seasonal fluctuations, demand levels, and the situation in Ukraine’s agricultural market. Consumers have the opportunity to save on thighs and fillets, but they must consider the price increase for drumsticks.
