One of PrivatBank’s clients faced an unexpected problem: the bank activated her old account without warning, even though all accounts had been officially closed several years ago. She reported this on the “Minfin” portal.

PrivatBank Client: The Account Was Activated Without My Knowledge
The woman explained that she recently started receiving messages from PrivatBank urging her to update her personal information for an allegedly active account. This surprised her, as she was confident that all banking services at this institution had concluded for her. The situation prompted her to prepare an official complaint to the National Bank of Ukraine.
“PrivatBank can open an account in your name without your knowledge! A few years ago, I closed my accounts and thought that chapter was behind me. But suddenly, messages start coming in — and it turns out I have an active account again, and I’m being asked to update my information,” the client shared.
According to her, visiting a PrivatBank branch did not help: she did not receive a clear explanation regarding the reasons for the account’s reactivation. The client emphasized that she had not signed any documents and had not visited the bank branch recently.
Violation of Banking Secrecy and Impact on Financial Behavior
The woman described the bank’s actions as a gross violation of banking secrecy and Ukrainian legislation. She believes that the demand to update information for an account opened without her knowledge is unacceptable.
She also advised others not to open accounts at PrivatBank if they do not wish to become “eternal clients”. Experts note that such cases only increase distrust in the banking system and contribute to the growing popularity of cash transactions. According to media reports, due to the risks associated with the war, Ukrainians are increasingly choosing to keep their money in cash, avoiding cashless transactions.
