Prices for White Cabbage in Ukraine Have Fallen by 84% Due to Storage Issues

Since the beginning of April 2026, there has been a significant decrease in the price of white cabbage in Ukraine. As of today, prices for this vegetable are considerably lower than last year, and the downward trend continues due to difficulties in storing last year’s harvest and a decline in product quality.

Price Dynamics of White Cabbage

Over the last weekend, wholesale prices for white cabbage in Ukrainian farms decreased by an average of 21%, reaching a historical low of 3 to 9 hryvnias per kilogram. In comparison, at the beginning of April 2025, this vegetable was sold for 35–42 hryvnias per kilogram. Thus, over the year, the price of cabbage has decreased by 84%.

“Just over the past weekend, the wholesale price of white cabbage in Ukrainian farms fell by an average of 21%, dropping to a record low range of 3 to 9 hryvnias per kilogram. However, the true scale of this price collapse is revealed in comparison with last year’s figures: at the beginning of April 2025, a kilogram of cabbage was sold for 35–42 hryvnias, meaning that prices have plummeted by 84% in a year.”

Reasons for the Price Drop of Cabbage

The main reasons for the sharp decline in prices, according to experts, are a stable decrease in demand for old cabbage among consumers and retail chains, as well as a deterioration in product quality due to prolonged storage. Due to the loss of marketable appearance, farmers are forced to significantly lower prices to quickly sell off the remaining perishable vegetable.

Experts predict that the downward price trend may continue, as the quality of cabbage in storage continues to deteriorate.

Additionally, at the beginning of the week, cucumber prices in Ukraine also began to decline, which is linked to an increase in imported supplies to the domestic market. Analysts believe that the spring price decrease may persist, as sales volumes of products from Ukrainian farmers are increasing.

It is worth noting that at the end of March, a sharp drop in prices was also recorded for Beijing cabbage, which was sold for nearly its production cost.
