There is a significant increase in the wholesale prices of last year’s white cabbage in the Ukrainian market. Over the past week, its price has risen to 8–15 UAH per kilogram, which is 75% higher than the previous week. The main reason for this price increase is the seasonal reduction of vegetable stocks in farmers’ warehouses.

Reasons for the sharp price increase
According to experts, the demand for white cabbage remains consistently high, which reinforces the trend of rising prices. A significant portion of farms has already completely sold out their stocks of last year’s produce, and only residual batches offered by individual farmers remain on the market.
“Currently (May 9 – ed.), Ukrainian producers are offering last year’s white cabbage at prices of 8-15 UAH/kg (0.18-0.34 USD/kg), which is on average 75% more expensive than a week earlier.”
Market participants explain that the product shortage and reduced supply have become the main factors behind this price spike. At the same time, despite the increase, the current price of cabbage is approximately 77% lower than during the same period last year.
Probability of further price increases
Experts emphasize that further reductions in stocks could lead to even higher prices for white cabbage in the near future. In contrast, the situation with greenhouse cucumbers looks different: their price is, on the contrary, decreasing, and currently, producers are shipping cucumbers at a price 30% lower than during the same period last year.
