Prices for last year’s carrots in Ukraine rose by 27% in a week

In Ukraine, there is a sharp increase in prices for last year’s carrots — in just the last week, the average price of this root vegetable has risen by 27%.

This is reported by Finway

“Currently, Ukrainian farmers are selling carrots at prices ranging from 17 to 25 UAH per kilogram, depending on the quality and volume of the batch. For comparison, just at the end of last working week, the price maximum in this segment did not exceed 20 UAH/kg.”

Reasons for the price increase of carrots

Market experts explain the rise in carrot prices primarily due to the seasonal reduction in stocks of quality products in farms. At the same time, there is a revival of demand from consumers, and wholesale companies are facing difficulties in purchasing sufficient volumes of high-quality vegetables. These factors have led to the sharp increase in prices.

Current price situation and trends

Despite the noticeable increase, the current price of carrots remains significantly lower than a year ago. Thus, at the end of May 2025, farmers were selling carrots on average for 84% more than now.

A similar situation is observed with last year’s potatoes: in just a few days, its price has risen on average by 15%. The main reason is the seasonal decrease in supply against the backdrop of consistently high demand from consumers.

At the same time, prices for young cabbage are showing the opposite trend. As of mid-May, cabbage from the 2026 harvest is already being sold for 34–40 UAH per kilogram.
