How Many Ukrainians Have Savings in Banks: New Data from the NBU

The total number of payment accounts in Ukraine has reached 193 million, which is a 4% increase compared to last year when there were 185 million. This information was reported by the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine.

A significant portion of the accounts were opened by individuals, whose total number is nearly 185.7 million. This indicates that, on average, one person has two accounts. It is noted that Ukrainian legislation does not impose restrictions on the number of accounts that users can open, so the number of accounts exceeds the total population.

Increase in the Number of Payment Service Users

In total, Ukraine has recorded 84 million users of payment services—both individuals and business entities that have opened accounts. This is a 2% increase compared to the beginning of 2024.

Furthermore, the number of users being served remotely continues to grow. It has been noted that more than three-quarters of all users with accounts are using remote services:

  • 89.85% of business entities (compared to 89.15% at the beginning of 2024)
  • 82.87% of individuals (compared to 79.47% at the beginning of 2024)

Currently, there are 63 payment service providers in Ukraine, including 61 banks and two non-bank service providers.

“The National Bank of Ukraine has not extended the regulatory limit of 150,000 UAH per month for transfers by individuals ‘from card to card.’”
