In Ukraine, there is a growing shortage of workers, prompting companies to seek new approaches to recruitment. In particular, employers are increasingly offering positions to men over 60. This trend was discussed by Ella Libanova, director of the M.V. Ptukha Institute of Demography and Social Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Changes in the Labor Market
The expert noted that after the end of the full-scale war, the country will inevitably face a labor shortage, forcing businesses to adjust their strategies. Libanova pointed out that the negative practice of ageism is gradually becoming a thing of the past.
Why Employers Are Focusing on Older Workers
Today, employers are “chasing” men aged 60 and over, as they are not being mobilized to the front. “They (the employers — ed.) understand perfectly well that these men who start working for them will not leave for the front in a month or two or three. They will work for a long time, and at 60, productivity is certainly maintained. For physical work, perhaps not as much, but for mental work — definitely,” emphasized Libanova.
The average life expectancy in Ukraine ranges from 62 to 63 years, so employers have already begun to change their conditions in the labor market. Deputy Minister of Social Policy Daria Marchak noted that the profile of job seekers in Ukraine is getting older.
Companies will start opening new niches and offering new products, as well as adapting HR policies to meet the needs of experienced older workers. “These are people who already have life experience, understand how to behave in various situations, and interact better with society. We need to learn, as a country, to benefit from age rather than perceive the increase in the average age of citizens as a problem,” explained the official.
