Egg Prices in Ukrainian Supermarkets Rise Before Easter

Ukrainian supermarkets are experiencing a significant increase in the price of chicken eggs sold individually. Since mid-March of this year, prices have risen by 7.3 UAH per dozen. Experts predict that, in light of the rising demand ahead of Easter, which will be celebrated on April 20, 2025, the cost of eggs may increase by another 10%.

“Before Easter, we are likely to see price increases of around 10%, as demand will be heightened. … Right now, as the old harvest comes to an end and the new one has not yet begun, prices for the grain group are not decreasing, which is also one of the factors affecting the cost of eggs”

This information was shared by Denis Marchuk, Deputy Head of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council. He also emphasized that other important factors influence egg prices. Firstly, the rising cost of feed for chickens, which has become relevant recently. Secondly, the high cost of keeping poultry during the winter period, particularly due to heating expenses for the facilities where they are kept.

However, with the arrival of warmer weather, the situation may change. According to the expert, an increase in the supply of eggs from households could lead to a decrease in prices. The cost of eggs could significantly drop by 20-30%.

According to data from the information portal “Minfin”, currently, packaged eggs of the “Yasensvit” brand in Ukrainian supermarkets are sold at an average of 72.83 UAH per dozen, which is 6.21 UAH more than the average price in February. The price of eggs in large chains ranges from 69.4 UAH to 78.2 UAH per dozen. Specifically, in the Auchan chain, the price is 69.4 UAH per dozen, in Novus – 70.89 UAH per dozen, and in Megamarket – 78.2 UAH per dozen.
