The cost of coffee, tea, and cocoa in Ukraine is steadily increasing, reflecting global trends in the world market. The rise in prices for these popular beverages is attributed to a number of factors, among which climate change, reduced yields, and a disruption of the balance between supply and demand play a key role.

Global Reasons for Price Increases
Doctor of Economic Sciences, leading researcher at the Institute of Agrarian Economics, Bohdan Dukhnytskyi emphasizes that prices for tea, coffee, and cocoa have been rising for several years. The main factors driving this trend are climate disasters, reduced harvests, and an imbalance between supply and demand in global markets.
“The increase in tea prices began in the summer of 2024, mainly due to excessive heat and flooding in India. This resulted in a 30% reduction in production for the country, which is the second-largest producer of this type of agricultural product in the world, along with a 20% increase in price,” explains the expert.
As for cocoa, in the spring of 2024, the price per ton of cocoa beans exceeded $10,000 for the first time due to a decrease in global production from 5 million to 4.4 million tons in the 2023/24 season. In December 2024, a price peak was recorded at $11,985 per ton, and by mid-June 2025, the price remained at $8,300-8,700 per ton. Experts emphasize that even if cocoa bean prices stabilize, further increases in chocolate prices are inevitable due to limited recovery capabilities in production.
The Coffee Market Situation and Prices in Ukraine
The coffee market is experiencing a similar trend. According to Dukhnytskyi, the main reasons for the price increase are sustained demand that exceeds supply and reduced sales volumes from producers who are awaiting the new harvest. From May 2024 to May 2025, the price of coffee increased by nearly 50% – from $2.20 to $3.34 per pound. The decline in yields in Vietnam and Brazil due to adverse weather conditions in late summer 2024 also impacted the market.
Since Ukraine fully imports coffee, tea, and cocoa, global price fluctuations are felt by Ukrainian consumers as well. Additionally, the costs associated with the consequences of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation exert further pressure on prices. Typically, price increases in the domestic market occur with a delay of 3-4 months from global trends. In June 2025, according to the espresso index from Opendatabot, the price of a cup of espresso in Ukraine rose by 20% year-on-year – from 32.19 UAH to 38.73 UAH.
Experts predict that due to crop failures and reduced stocks, the price of coffee and chocolate will continue to rise. Businesses are advised to adjust their purchasing strategies, while consumers should prepare for further price increases.
Comparison of Coffee Prices Worldwide
Despite significant increases, coffee prices in Ukraine remain lower than in many European countries. According to the Numbeo service, a cup of cappuccino costs:
- in Poland – 13.53 zlotys (154 UAH);
- in Lithuania – 3.10 euros (150.10 UAH);
- in Germany – 3.51 euros (169.95 UAH);
- in France – 3.21 euros (155.43 UAH);
- in Hungary – 813.71 forints (98.13 UAH);
- in Spain – 2.02 euros (150.10 UAH);
- in Sweden – 45.33 kronor (198.35 UAH);
- in Estonia – 3.50 euros (169.47 UAH).
Thus, despite the challenges in the global market, the cost of coffee, tea, and cocoa in Ukraine remains relatively affordable compared to European countries, although the trend towards price increases persists.
