China Could Outpace the US in Artificial Intelligence — Nvidia CEO

Китай обжене США в перегонах штучного інтелекту

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang believes that China has the potential to become a global leader in artificial intelligence development due to its affordable energy and lenient technology regulations.

China’s Advantages in AI

In a recent interview, Jensen Huang emphasized that the low cost of electricity and government support create favorable conditions for technology companies in China. According to him, the Chinese government actively subsidizes the energy supply for data centers, allowing local manufacturers like Huawei and Cambricon to develop their own chips at lower costs. This, Huang argues, provides a significant advantage to Chinese artificial intelligence developers.

“In China, energy is practically free,” which gives local AI developers a considerable edge.

At the same time, the US and the UK are experiencing increased bureaucratic control and growing distrust of innovative technologies. Huang criticized Western countries for their “cynicism and caution,” which he believes hinder the development of the artificial intelligence sector.

US Restrictions and Nvidia’s Position

The Nvidia leader’s remarks came after the Trump administration maintained a ban on the export of advanced Nvidia chips to China. Despite negotiations between the leaders of the two countries, the US did not allow the shipment of the latest Blackwell processors, citing national security concerns. Trump emphasized that he would not allow China to obtain the most advanced Nvidia chips but did not rule out the possibility of a limited deal for a “stripped-down version” of Blackwell.

Huang also noted that the gap between American and Chinese artificial intelligence models is gradually narrowing. He urged the White House to reconsider export restrictions to ensure that the US maintains its leadership in the global technology market.

At the same time, China has intensified support for technology giants, including ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent, allowing them to partially offset rising costs due to restrictions on the import of American components.

Analysts have pointed out the successes of the new artificial intelligence model from DeepSeek, which already demonstrates capabilities comparable to those of OpenAI and Anthropic.

It was previously reported that Nvidia is investing $100 billion in the development of artificial intelligence infrastructure alongside OpenAI.
