The Austrian metallurgical giant voestalpine has reached an agreement to sell voestalpine BÖHLER Profil, which specializes in the production of special profiles for industry, to the American corporation Kadant Inc. Kadant is a global supplier of engineering solutions for the industrial sector. The contract between the parties has already been signed; however, regulatory approval is required to finalize the deal. The process is expected to be completed by the end of the 2025/26 financial year. Under the terms of the agreement, the new owner will retain all jobs at the facility in Brückl, Lower Austria.

Reasons for the sale and strategic significance of the deal
BÖHLER Profil is part of the High Performance Metals division. The company is known as one of the leading manufacturers of specialized profiles for industrial knives and other industrial applications. According to voestalpine’s CEO Herbert Eibensteiner, the decision to sell BÖHLER Profil was made as part of a targeted optimization of the High Performance Metals division’s portfolio.
“Given the structure, sales channels, and production processes, the company is no longer considered a strategically key asset of the group.”
Financial performance and future plans
In the 2024/25 financial year, BÖHLER Profil provided employment for about 150 employees, with revenue amounting to €51.5 million. Over the past 15 years, voestalpine has invested €23 million in the development of the enterprise, focusing on the automation and digitalization of production processes.
Reinhard Neobauer, a member of the voestalpine board and head of the High Performance Metals division, noted that BÖHLER Profil remains a profitable company with stable financial results. At the same time, Kadant Inc. plans not only to maintain the existing business but also to expand the product line and invest in further development of the enterprise.
Recently, the High Performance Metals division completed a restructuring that includes the sale of Buderus Edelstahl in Germany, the consolidation of capacities outside Austria, and adjustments to production capabilities at Böhler Bleche. Despite the change in ownership of BÖHLER Profil, voestalpine has confirmed its EBITDA financial forecast for the 2025/26 financial year within the range of €1.40–1.55 billion.
