Ukrainian Danube Ports Handled Nearly 9 Million Tons of Cargo in 2025

In 2025, Ukrainian ports on the Danube – Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaisk – handled over 8.9 million tons of cargo, significantly reducing the load on land border crossings and enabling the support of Ukraine’s export capabilities.

Joint Actions to Strengthen Transport Infrastructure

The current situation in the maritime sector, particularly in the Danube region, was the topic of discussion at a QUAD meeting involving representatives from Ukraine, the European Commission, Romania, and Moldova. Special attention was paid to the impact of security threats, the complex energy situation, and restrictions on transport movement, as well as short-term and long-term solutions for stable logistics.

“Particular attention was given to the role of Danube ports as a backup export route, the necessity of enhancing their resilience, and supporting the stable operation of the national carrier Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company amid systemic attacks from Russia.”

Plans for the Restoration and Development of the Port Network

During the meeting, Deputy Minister for Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine Andriy Kashuba informed partners about the current state of the maritime and river sector, as well as the consequences of shelling of port and energy infrastructure in late 2025 and early 2026. Participants discussed further steps to strengthen regional cooperation, integrate the Ukrainian section of the Danube into the European transport network TEN-T, and attract EU funding for the restoration and development of the Danube region’s port infrastructure.
