Poland Tightens Rules: What Will Lead to Faster License Revocation for Drivers in 2026

In March 2026, new, stricter rules for accumulating penalty points for drivers will come into effect in Poland, significantly increasing accountability for serious traffic violations.

Maximum Penalty Points for Dangerous Violations

According to the updated regulation, drivers will receive the maximum number of penalty points — 15 — for the most dangerous violations. These violations include:

  • driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol;
  • driving around a closed barrier at a railway crossing;
  • participating in illegal street racing;
  • exceeding the speed limit in a way that poses a real threat to other road users;
  • driving a car after having their driving license revoked.

In Poland, drivers are allowed to accumulate up to 24 penalty points. Exceeding this limit will result in the loss of the right to drive a vehicle. The new changes reduce the number of violations required for license revocation, making the penalty system stricter.

Additional Penalties and New Sanctions

Particular attention is being given to dangerous maneuvers and so-called “stunts” on the road. Specifically, for riding on one wheel on a motorcycle or car, drivers will be assigned 10 penalty points and fined between 1500 to 2500 zlotys.

Additionally, the updated rules include changes to the penalty system for other violations. For example, causing a traffic accident without injuries will result in 12 points, while the penalty points for dangerous use of a vehicle will be reduced from 15 to 12.

“The draft changes have already passed interdepartmental approvals. The introduction of the new penalty points system is planned for March 2026.”
