The volume of cashless transactions using payment cards in Ukraine continues to show dynamic growth. As of the end of the first nine months of 2025, the country’s banks registered 7,069.4 million transactions totaling 5,217.6 billion UAH.
This is reported by Finway
“Of this number, 6,745.7 million transactions were cashless, amounting to 3,414.2 billion UAH. Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of cashless transactions increased by 11.7%, while the total amount rose by 9.9%.”
Leading Trends in Cashless Transactions
The share of cashless transactions by amount from January to September 2025 accounted for 65.4% of the total volume of payment card transactions, while by number, it was 95.4%. In comparison, in 2024, these figures were 64.8% and 94.5%, respectively.
The highest number of transactions was recorded in retail and service networks, accounting for 74.4% of the total number and 50.7% of the total amount. Transfers “from card to card” made up 7.3% by number and 26.7% by amount, while online payments for goods and services accounted for 13.7% and 16.1%, respectively.
Growing Popularity of Contactless and Tokenized Payment Cards
The average amount of a single transaction in retail and service networks in 2025 reached 345 UAH (compared to 322 UAH in 2024). For “from card to card” transfers, this figure was 1,847 UAH (last year — 1,976 UAH), and for online payments — 598 UAH (553 UAH in 2024).
The number of active payment cards, including contactless ones, remained almost unchanged. In September 2025, more than half (59.6%) of all active cards were contactless. Additionally, the share of tokenized payment cards continues to grow: since the beginning of the year, their number has increased by 13%, reaching 18.6 million units. Thus, nearly one in three active cards (31.5%) is tokenized.
As a result, physical card reading in retail networks is becoming less significant: its share accounts for only 1.8% of the number of transactions and 2.5% of the total amount (in 2024 — 4.7% and 5.8%, respectively). The remaining transactions are conducted contactlessly — using contactless cards, smartphones, or other gadgets. In the first nine months of 2025, the total amount of contactless transactions reached 1,686.3 billion UAH (in 2024 — 1,349.1 billion UAH).
