According to the official estimate from the State Statistics Service, in the second quarter of 2025, Ukraine’s real gross domestic product grew by 0.2% compared to the previous quarter (adjusted for seasonal factors) and by 0.8% year-on-year relative to the same period in 2024.

GDP Growth Dynamics in August and the Impact of the Agricultural Sector
Analysts from the Institute for Economic Research note a significant acceleration in economic growth rates in August 2025 — reaching 8% compared to August of the previous year. The main driver was the positive dynamics in agriculture, which occurred due to the later harvest. In July, GDP contracted by 0.5%, attributed to a substantial decline in gross value added in the agricultural sector by 26%. However, in August, the 37% growth in agriculture lifted the monthly GDP growth rate to 8%.
“According to IED estimates, wheat harvest in August was 250% higher than the figure for August 2024, and barley harvest was 100% more.”
Positive and Negative Trends in Specific Sectors
In addition to the agricultural sector, other industries also showed positive signals for Ukraine’s economy in the second quarter:
- The manufacturing industry increased its value added by 6%. This was made possible by stable domestic demand, the recovery of food production, and government orders for defense products.
- Trade maintained a growth rate of 3%, attributed to timely wage payments and social benefits, as well as salary increases amid labor shortages.
- Electricity production recorded a 10% increase due to a low base from the previous year when the country faced widespread power outages.
At the same time, some sectors remain in a state of stagnation:
- The mining industry saw a 7% decline in value added due to losses in coal mines, although this was partially offset by an increase in the extraction of construction materials.
- The transport sector reduced its value added by nearly 10%, related to the cessation of gas transit, a temporary halt in oil transit, and a reduction in railway transportation.
