In Ukraine, diesel fuel reserves are sufficient until the end of March: import prospects

The diesel fuel market in Ukraine is currently fully supplied with resources at least until the end of March. According to industry analysts, the average daily diesel import has increased by 3% and is nearly reaching 17,000 tons per day. Meanwhile, the question of further supplies in April remains uncertain due to rising prices in global markets.

Diesel Imports and New Challenges

After large-scale missile strikes by Russia that destroyed Ukrainian oil refineries, the country has become almost entirely dependent on diesel fuel imports. The main supplies come from countries in Western, Central, and Southern Europe. At the current import rates, the total volume of diesel supplies in March could reach around 522,000 tons, which is nearly equivalent to the figures for March 2025.

“Negotiations are ongoing, but so far no one is specifying exact volumes, guarantees, and even less so price increases.”

However, the situation for April remains uncertain. Suppliers are postponing decisions regarding volumes and prices until the last moment. One trader emphasized that wholesale prices for diesel fuel have increased by nearly 50% in less than a month due to the escalation of the war in the Middle East. If the armed conflict drags on, there is a risk of further price increases.

The Impact of Prices on the Agricultural Sector

The rise in fuel prices is also affecting the agricultural sector. Last week, the Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine reported that if the conflict in Iran continues, the country may increase rapeseed plantings by a third — to 1.5 million hectares. This step will provide raw materials for biodiesel production, the demand for which is growing against the backdrop of high global fuel prices.
