According to Andriy Demchenko, Lieutenant General Serhiy Deyneka has been called up for military service in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On Military Duty.” He has been appointed as the head of the Luhansk border detachment.

“Indeed, based on the Law of Ukraine ‘On Military Duty,’ Lieutenant General Serhiy Deyneka has been called up for military service. According to the regulations on military service in the State Border Guard Service, he has been appointed as the head of the Luhansk border detachment,” he said.

Demchenko emphasized that Deyneka’s dismissal from military service does not restrict his right to serve in the State Border Guard Service under mobilization. Furthermore, the appointment to a combat position is related to his significant military experience in the field of state defense.

Investigation into Receiving Illegal Benefits

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office reported on January 22 about uncovering a scheme involving employees of the State Border Guard Service receiving illegal benefits for facilitating unhindered crossing of the state border. Among the suspects, law enforcement named the former head of the border service.

The NABU did not disclose the names of the suspects; however, media reported that searches were conducted at Serhiy Deyneka’s premises. He has not commented on these investigative actions.

On January 30, the court imposed a preventive measure on Deyneka in the form of bail set at 10 million hryvnias. It later became known that this amount had been paid.

A source in the NABU reported that in the situation regarding Deyneka’s appointment under mobilization, law enforcement does not have the ability to influence the decision made.

It is worth noting that Serhiy Deyneka headed the State Border Guard Service until early January 2026. According to official information, he was dismissed by an order dated February 2, while the service had previously denied reports of his dismissal due to the Military Medical Commission.
