In Ukraine, a significant decrease in onion prices is forecasted for autumn 2025, specifically to a wholesale level below 8 UAH/kg. This price drop is linked to the anticipated increase in harvests, stabilization of logistics processes, and a reduction in import dependence.

Currently, onion prices in Ukrainian supermarkets range from 25 to 33 UAH/kg. Analysts from EastFruit, based on surveys of participants from the trading platforms “UkrOpt” and “EF Trade Platform,” note that the market situation is quite different from 2022, when the war led to a significant shortage due to the occupation of key growing regions.
“In 2023, the average wholesale price in autumn was 7-8 UAH/kg, and in 2024 it was already 9-10 UAH/kg,”
analysts point out. Despite fluctuations in UAH, prices remained at 20-29 cents per kilogram in dollars.
An anonymous survey conducted by EastFruit revealed that the largest number of respondents (29%) predict a price below 20 cents per kg, which corresponds to a cost of less than 8.3 UAH at the current exchange rate. This indicates a high likelihood of a record drop in onion prices in autumn 2025.
Reasons for the Expected Price Decline
Among the main factors that could contribute to price reductions, analysts highlight:
- improved weather conditions leading to larger harvests;
- expansion of sown areas compared to previous years;
- stabilization of logistics chains within the country;
- reduction of import dependence, making prices less sensitive to external markets.
