Russia launched new drone attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities: tens of thousands without electricity

Consequences of the attacks in the regions

According to Oleksandr Vyazovchenko, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, the most significant losses were suffered by the Donetsk, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions. In the Donetsk region, a significant portion of consumers was left without power. New outages were also recorded in the Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions due to drone strikes and shelling. Restoration of electricity supply is ongoing where the security situation allows.

“The enemy has carried out drone strikes on energy facilities in several regions. As a result, a significant portion of consumers in the Donetsk region is without power this morning. New outages have also occurred in the Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions due to enemy shelling. Restoration of energy supply has already begun where the security situation permits,” said Vyazovchenko.

In the Odesa region, the situation remains tense: since the night, Russian forces have systematically attacked the region, resulting in over 170,000 consumers being left without electricity. Energy workers are tirelessly working to mitigate the consequences and restore power to residents’ homes as quickly as possible.

Situation in Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, and Ternopil regions

In the Kyiv region, the effects of the missile and drone attack on December 27 are still being felt by consumers: in the Brovary district, about a thousand residents remain without power, although energy workers have already restored electricity for over 9,000 residents of the region. Emergency restoration work is ongoing around the clock.

Additionally, in the Khmelnytskyi and Ternopil regions, 43 settlements remain fully or partially without electricity as of this morning. The causes include not only the attacks but also adverse weather conditions — strong winds and wet snow accumulation. Repair crews from the regional energy company are working to restore damaged power lines.
