Rio Tinto shipped over 326 million tons of iron ore from Pilbara in 2025

The mining corporation Rio Tinto reported that in 2025 it delivered 326.2 million tons of iron ore from the Pilbara region in Western Australia, which is only 1% less than in 2024. This data is included in the company’s official report.

Trends in Production and Shipments

In the past year, iron ore production at Rio Tinto’s facilities in Western Australia reached 327.3 million tons, which is nearly equivalent to the previous year’s result. The company reported record figures for both production and shipments in the fourth quarter of 2025. From October to December, iron ore production in Pilbara increased by 4% year-on-year, reaching 89.7 million tons. Meanwhile, the volume of shipments during the same period rose by 7% to 91.3 million tons.

Plans for 2026 and Key Achievements

For 2026, Rio Tinto forecasts total iron ore shipments in the range of 343–366 million tons, indicating expectations for further growth.

“We achieved record quarterly iron ore production in Pilbara, restoring our capacity after extreme weather conditions earlier in the year. In Simandou, we marked an important milestone – the first shipment from the port, demonstrating our ability to execute large growth projects,” said Simon Trott, CEO of Rio Tinto.

A significant achievement for the company was the first shipment of iron ore from the Simandou port, highlighting Rio Tinto’s capabilities in executing large-scale investment initiatives and expanding production capacity.
