Modernized Wheels for Extreme Conditions

To fulfill the contract, INTERPIPE developed a new modification of the railway wheel from the Ultimate series. The ULT 25 LL (Long Life) model has a diameter of 920 mm, and its tread features optimized geometry, ensuring a longer service life even in harsh climatic conditions.

The leading sales specialist for railway products in the European market, Niklas Eriksson, emphasized the long-standing cooperation with this client and highlighted the flexibility and quick response to partner requests.

“In this case, we were able to adapt an existing wheel design, but sometimes we create entirely new solutions in accordance with European TSI standards, which allows us to deepen long-term cooperation with partners.”

Strategic Importance of the Supply

The first batch of innovative wheels is already in operation on the Malmbanan railway line, which connects one of the largest deposits in Europe, Kiruna, in northern Sweden, with the ice-free port of Narvik. This route carries some of the heaviest trains in Europe, weighing over 8000 tons, with an axle load of 25 tons.

Malmbanan is considered a model of engineering solutions and logistics in the European mining industry.

INTERPIPE is a leading Ukrainian manufacturer of steel pipes and railway products, supplying its products to over 70 countries worldwide through a network of trading offices in key regions, including the Middle East, North America, and Europe.

In 2025, the company sold 470,000 tons of pipe products and 89,000 tons of railway products, marketed under the KLW brand.

The total number of INTERPIPE employees is approximately 9,500, of which 1,150 serve in the Armed Forces and other security structures. In 2025, the company paid 5.566 billion UAH in taxes and fees to budgets at all levels, setting a record for the enterprise.
