The Polish Oil Producers Association (PSPO), representing 95% of the domestic industry, has appealed to Prime Minister Donald Tusk to reconsider the current ban on the import of Ukrainian rapeseed. According to representatives of the organization, the shortage of this raw material in Poland could reach at least 500,000 tons in the 2025–2026 season. Such a deficit threatens the stability of domestic oil production enterprises, which are already facing reduced harvests and a lack of rapeseed.

Polish Processors Losing to European Competitors
PSPO emphasizes that the current situation creates unequal conditions for Polish companies compared to other producers in the EU. The legislation in most EU countries allows for the unrestricted purchase of Ukrainian rapeseed, while Polish enterprises are forced to operate with a shortage of raw materials. Industry experts are convinced that lifting the ban will not harm local farmers, as all domestic harvests will be purchased at competitive European prices.
“Domestic volumes of rapeseed will still be purchased at European prices. The export infrastructure from Ukraine has significantly changed since 2022, and mass imports of rapeseed to Poland will not be repeated.”
Position of the Polish Government on Rapeseed Imports
Currently, the Polish government does not plan to lift the ban on the import of rapeseed seeds from Ukraine. Authorities are awaiting the conclusion of negotiations regarding the revision of the trade agreement between the European Union and Ukraine. Until then, the restrictions will remain in place, despite calls from representatives of the processing industry.
