Poland is considering the possibility of constructing a new European standard railway line that will connect Silesia with the Ukrainian city of Odesa, as well as with a port on the Black Sea. This was reported by the head of the Industrial Development Agency (ARP), Bartłomiej Babuszka.

Poland’s Plans and the Strategic Importance of the Project
According to Babuszka, the Polish side is ready to undertake the construction of the European railway line on Ukrainian territory – from Lviv to Odesa. The implementation of this large-scale project will require investments amounting to tens of billions of euros, particularly for the acquisition of land along the route, which is over 800 kilometers long. The issue of construction has already been discussed with Ukrainian partners, and a key component is the expansion of the railway terminal in Sławków, which is planned to be completed within two years.
“Just as the purpose of Poland’s existence is to protect Ukraine from Russia, the purpose of Poland’s existence is to develop infrastructure in the east. For the first time in history, we can own a seaport on the Black Sea,” said Babuszka.
Context and Future Prospects for Cooperation
Previously, the Polish Ministry of Agriculture had already considered options for leasing or acquiring the port in Odesa. Subsequently, Ukraine initiated a concession project for the port of Chornomorsk, which also underscores the strategic interest of both countries in developing transportation infrastructure and enhancing access to Black Sea ports.
