Scale of destruction and humanitarian consequences
The head of the Financial Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Danilo Hetmantsev, emphasized during the forum of frontline cities and communities that today all regions of the state remain under threat, as Russian drones and missiles pose a danger to every area. According to Hetmantsev, the Ukrainian society faces the most serious task since 1946 – the reconstruction of the country after the devastating consequences of the war.
Key indicators of Ukraine’s losses
- $589 billion – total losses from Russian aggression;
- 13% of the housing stock has been damaged or destroyed;
- 2.5 million households have been affected by hostilities;
- 4 million citizens have become internally displaced persons;
- 7 million Ukrainians have been forced to leave the country;
- 139 thousand sq. km of territory remain mined.
“That is why such a level of task cannot be solved by any region alone if there is no unity among us. Therefore, it is important not to restore what was before the war. This is impossible to do, let’s be honest. It is important to create an updated, new Ukraine, a modern Ukraine. To build anew. And considering that we have to accomplish such a crucial task for our children and our grandchildren,” concluded the MP.
Government officials emphasize that successful reconstruction of the state is only possible through the consolidation of efforts from all regions and communities, as well as with the involvement of international support. The main goal is not just to restore what has been destroyed, but to create a qualitatively new, modern Ukraine for future generations.
