Over 1100 Houses in Kyiv Left Without Heating: Consequences of the Attack and Operation of Heating Points

In Kyiv, following a nighttime attack by the Russian Federation on critical infrastructure, over 1100 residential buildings in the Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts have been left without heating.

Extent of Damage and Government Actions

Vitaliy Klitschko reported that in the morning, water was drained from the heating systems in over 1100 high-rise buildings to prevent the networks from freezing. Considering that the capital has about 12,000 apartment buildings, currently around 10% of the city’s residential stock is without heating.

According to the mayor, the infrastructure facility that provides heating to these areas has sustained serious damage due to the massive shelling. Relevant services are currently working to assess the extent of the destruction and the possibility of restoring its operation as quickly as possible.

Deployment of Heating Points

To support residents in areas that have been left without heating, additional heating points have been organized in Kyiv based in schools. There are five such points operating in the Darnytskyi district and four in the Dniprovskyi district, which are connected to mobile boilers. People can stay in these points both during the day and at night.

Klitschko mentioned that water was drained from the heating systems in more than 1100 houses in the morning to avoid freezing. He previously stated that there are 12,000 high-rise buildings in the capital, so currently about 10% of them are without heating.

The city authorities urge Kyiv residents to follow recommendations and, if necessary, to contact the heating points while repair work to restore heating supply is ongoing.
