Zelensky’s Statement on Budapest’s Actions

During a joint press conference in Copenhagen with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is openly facing challenges in its dialogue with Hungary. The President highlighted that the political motives of Prime Minister Orban are hindering Ukraine’s path to Euro-integration.

“We have issues with Hungary, and we can speak openly about it because Viktor Orban has elections. I believe that since he has elections, he is blocking the path of a powerful country to the European Union,” Zelensky said at the press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen on Thursday.

Context: Hungary’s Role in EU Negotiations

This is not the first time Hungary has shown a cautious stance regarding the expansion of the European Union. This is especially true concerning issues related to Ukraine. According to Ukrainian authorities, the political situation in Hungary affects Budapest’s decisions on supporting Ukraine in its path to EU membership.

Relations between Ukraine and Hungary remain tense due to political discussions surrounding EU expansion, as well as internal political processes within Hungary itself.
