NBU Sells Gold Commemorative Coin for 200 UAH: All the Details

The National Bank of Ukraine has begun selling a gold commemorative coin with a face value of 200 hryvnias at a price of 77,187 hryvnias per unit. This coin is dedicated to the outstanding Ukrainian poet, artist, and thinker Taras Shevchenko. Each buyer has the opportunity to purchase no more than four coins, as sales are limited. The coin is made of 900 fine gold, and its year of minting is 1996. The weight of the pure metal is 15.55 grams, and the edge of the coin is smooth. The total mintage of the commemorative coin is 10,000 pieces, and currently, only 727 coins remain in stock. The coin can be purchased in a special case.

Design of the Coin

On the obverse of the coin, which is the front side, there is an image of the small State Emblem of Ukraine in the center of a circle surrounded by beads, framed by viburnum branches. Additionally, this side indicates the year of minting, the face value, and the inscription “UKRAINE”.

Reverse Side of the Coin

On the reverse side of the coin, in the center of the field, there is a portrait of Taras Shevchenko, under which the poet’s autograph is placed. Next to the portrait is an image of a singing kobzar with a boy-guide near a village house. At the top, you can see the inscription “T.G. SHEVCHENKO 1814-1861,” and at the bottom, there are markings and the fineness of the precious metal, as well as the weight in purity.
