Requirements for Insurance Record for Pension in 2026
According to current legislation, individuals who have reached the age of 60 are entitled to a pension, provided they have the necessary insurance record. In 2026, to retire at 60 years old, one will need to have at least 33 years of insurance record. For those with between 23 and 33 years of record, the retirement age will be 63 years. Citizens with a work record of 15 to 23 years will only be able to claim a pension at 65 years old.
“For example, if your work record for pension purposes is 28 years, you will not be able to retire at 60. Instead, you will need to wait another 3 years, and then you can receive benefits at 63 years old.”
Thus, future pensioners should check their records in advance to prepare for the changes and not lose the right to receive a pension at their desired age.
What Counts Towards Insurance Record and How to Confirm It
The insurance record includes not only years of official employment. It also accounts for the following periods:
- military service;
- periods of receiving disability pension and caring for a person with a disability;
- periods of leave and sick leave;
- payment of insurance contributions as a self-employed individual;
- earnings abroad in countries with which Ukraine has relevant agreements.
It is especially important to know that caring for a child up to 3 years old also counts towards the insurance record. Since 2005, this period has been automatically accounted for.
To confirm work record acquired after 2004, data from state registers is sufficient. If it concerns periods before 2004, it is necessary to provide a work book or other documents that certify employment activity. In the absence of such documents due to the liquidation of the enterprise or occupation of the territory, the issue can be resolved through a special commission of the Pension Fund of Ukraine or through court proceedings.
Possibility to Purchase Insurance Record and Information Control
Citizens who lack a few years to meet the necessary minimum have the option to purchase insurance record. This can be done at any age, and the cost is determined according to the minimum wage. However, the feasibility of such a step should be carefully considered: if only a few months are missing, purchasing the record may be beneficial, but if several years are lacking, it may be more prudent to wait until the necessary age is reached.
You can check your own insurance record on the website of the Pension Fund of Ukraine or through the mobile application. All data on contributions paid after 2004 is recorded automatically, and information about previous periods can be viewed using the work book.
