EU Lifts Import Restrictions on Beet, Sunflower, Rapeseed, and Soybean Seeds from Ukraine

The Council of the European Union has decided to eliminate additional checks for beet, sunflower, rapeseed, and soybean seeds imported from Ukraine. This has become possible due to the official recognition of the compliance of Ukrainian certification procedures with EU standards, allowing seeds produced in Ukraine and Moldova to be exported to EU countries without hindrance.

New Opportunities for Ukrainian Exporters

The lifting of restrictions creates favorable conditions for Ukrainian farmers and strengthens their position in the European market. European companies will have the opportunity to diversify seed production regions, which will contribute to a stable supply of quality products to EU countries. For Ukrainian producers, this means full access to the EU market and an enhancement of their export potential.

Next Steps in Trade Relations

The decision is expected to take effect 20 days after its official publication. Meanwhile, the EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Kateryna Maternova, expressed hope that a new trade agreement between the European Union and Ukraine will be concluded by the end of summer.

She noted that the preferential conditions were introduced, in particular, due to the blockage of maritime exports, but the cancellation of the “trade visa-free regime” also has political motives.

Thus, Ukrainian producers will be able to take advantage of new opportunities for export development, and cooperation with the EU in the field of agricultural trade receives an additional impetus for further growth.
