Ukrainian entrepreneur and blogger Sofia Vanivska conducted an experiment comparing the cost of a grocery basket in supermarkets of Ukraine and Poland. She visited the popular Polish supermarket Lidl and the Ukrainian “Silpo”, after which she published the results in her TikTok video.

Main Differences in Grocery Prices

The comparison covered various categories of products. In particular, a croissant in Poland costs 19 hryvnias, while in Ukraine it is 60 UAH. A Twix bar in Poland will cost 42.30 UAH, while in Ukraine it is 42.70 UAH. Bananas in the Polish supermarket cost 78 UAH, while in the Ukrainian one they are 79.99 UAH. A pineapple in Poland is sold for 78 UAH per kilogram, while in Ukraine it is 179 UAH each. Apples in Poland are priced at 56 UAH, while in Ukraine they are 80 UAH.

Butter in Poland can be purchased for 83 UAH, while in Ukraine it is 99 UAH. A quarter of chicken in Poland costs 56 UAH, while in Ukraine it is 133 UAH. A dozen chicken eggs in Poland will set you back 111 UAH, while in Ukraine it is 71 UAH. A two-liter bottle of sunflower oil in Poland costs 133 UAH, while in Ukraine it is 164 UAH.

Prices of Everyday Goods

In addition to food products, Sofia Vanivska also paid attention to essential goods. In particular, a pack of toilet paper in Poland costs 217 UAH, while in Ukraine it is 339 UAH.

Thus, based on the comparison results, it can be concluded that prices for certain categories of products in Poland are significantly lower than in Ukraine, although some items have similar costs.
