Ukraine’s accession to the EU entails stricter requirements for the quality of agricultural products. In particular, the prohibition of over 100 active substances in plant protection products, necessary to comply with EU standards, could result in a 30% reduction in agricultural production. Therefore, experts recommend implementing a transitional period of 10 to 15 years to allow the Ukrainian agricultural sector to gradually adapt to the new conditions.

Experts note that agricultural producers aiming to operate in the EU market must take on relevant commitments and be able to receive support in the form of European subsidies. At the same time, enterprises targeting other international markets should not be required to adhere exclusively to European standards, as this could limit their competitiveness and reduce export opportunities.
Currently, agricultural products account for 60% of Ukraine’s total exports. Even amid the war, Ukrainian producers demonstrate their readiness to fulfill international obligations and continue to ensure high quality of products supplied to the EU market.
