The public organization “Passengers of Kyiv” has initiated a proposal to change the fare system for public transport in the capital, drawing on European experience. The new model places a special emphasis on passengers who regularly use public transport, as well as the introduction of time-based tickets that allow transfers without additional payment.

What New Tariffs Are Proposed for Kyiv
- 20 UAH — ticket valid for 45 minutes (basic fare);
- 30 UAH — ticket for 90 minutes;
- 80 UAH — ticket for 1 day;
- 1000 UAH — monthly pass, which is 300 UAH cheaper than the current price, with the option to activate on any day of the month;
- For payments by bank card, a basic fare of 20 UAH is proposed, but without the right to free transfers;
- Students are offered a 50% discount on daily and monthly passes.
Transport should not just be a means of getting around, but a convenient tool for mobility for every Kyiv resident. It’s time to change our approaches, — emphasize the activists of “Passengers of Kyiv”.
Expected Benefits of Implementing the New Tariff Model
According to the initiators, this system is capable of significantly increasing the share of passengers using travel tickets. Currently, only about 1% of passengers in Kyiv use this service, while in European cities, such as Prague or Warsaw, this figure reaches 75–80% among regular transport users.
Another advantage is flexibility: thanks to the 45-minute ticket, passengers will be able to transfer from one mode of transport to another without additional payment. This will make using public transport more convenient and cost-effective for Kyiv residents.
According to the activists, the introduction of the European model could allow transport companies to double their revenues and also provide savings for the city budget at the level of 2.5 billion UAH annually. These funds are proposed to be directed towards the modernization of rolling stock and the renewal of the capital’s transport infrastructure.
