“Ukrzaliznytsia” has announced temporary changes to the schedule of high-speed Intercity trains on the Kyiv — Kharkiv route. Currently, trains on this route are only going to Poltava, and for passengers traveling to Kharkiv, connecting routes have been organized in sleeping cars.
This is reported by Finway
At present, high-speed trains only operate to Poltava, and passengers are offered connecting routes to Kharkiv in sleeping cars.
Reasons for Restrictions Between Poltava and Kharkiv
This decision is related to technical and energy difficulties on the Poltava — Kharkiv section. In recent weeks, there have been power supply interruptions on this section, forcing trains to operate using backup locomotives. This has led to significant delays in the schedule, sometimes reaching three hours. On some days, trains arrived in Kharkiv after the start of the curfew, causing additional inconveniences for passengers and complicating travel arrangements.
Temporary Routes and Resumption of Service
To enhance the stability of transportation and reduce delays, “Ukrzaliznytsia” has adjusted the schedule of high-speed trains by introducing connecting routes to Kharkiv in sleeping cars. The company emphasized that these changes are temporary and aimed at ensuring the comfort and safety of passengers under challenging conditions.
Restoration work is ongoing on the problematic section, and safety measures have been intensified. According to forecasts from “Ukrzaliznytsia,” full operation of Intercity trains between Kyiv and Kharkiv is planned to resume by the end of March. Meanwhile, other long-distance trains heading to Kharkiv continue to operate on their regular schedule, maintaining transport connections between the city and various regions of Ukraine.
