Details of the Attack and Investigation
According to preliminary information, the Ukrainian man left his apartment in the Camden Court residential complex and headed towards the store. At that moment, he was attacked by an unknown assailant with a knife. Law enforcement officials are currently leaning towards the version that the attack was random and had no specific target.
“The man, who is known to be from Ukraine but had lived in Ireland for a long time, was going out for food when he was stabbed during what appears to be a random attack on the street,” the publication states.
Despite his severe injuries, the victim remained conscious for some time and attempted to return home. He managed to walk approximately 100 meters before he collapsed. The Ukrainian man’s wife, upon learning of the incident, immediately called emergency services. However, the medics who arrived were unable to save him.
Police Actions and Family Support
The body of the deceased was taken to Cork University Hospital, where an autopsy was conducted. It was determined that the man had sustained multiple stab wounds. The police have officially opened a criminal investigation into the murder and established a special investigation team led by a senior detective.
Law enforcement officials cordoned off the crime scene—the area near the residential complex and a section on Lower John Street—and conducted necessary investigative actions. A liaison officer has been appointed to support the family of the deceased, maintaining communication with relatives during the investigation.
It is worth noting that earlier, another tragic case abroad was reported: 27-year-old Ukrainian Vasyl Shvets was killed in Cleveland, USA, where he worked as a Lyft driver. Two 17-year-old teenagers are suspected in this crime.
