The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has announced the launch of its first large-scale project, DOBRO, in Ukraine, aimed at developing sustainable and competitive production chains in the agricultural sector of Ukrainian communities. A total of $15 million will be allocated for this initiative, which will provide financial support to small farmers, with a particular focus on youth, women, and veterans working in agriculture.

Supporting Rural Development

According to IFAD, cooperation with the Ukrainian government is viewed as a strategic investment in the stability and recovery of rural regions, where over 13 million citizens reside. Since 2022, more than 202,000 agricultural producers have already received state support amounting to €184 million, contributing to the development of the agricultural sector and improving the well-being of rural residents.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is launching its first full-scale DOBRO project in Ukraine to create sustainable and competitive production chains for agricultural producers in communities. As part of the project, $15 million is planned to be allocated to support small farmers, particularly three target groups in the agricultural sector: youth, women, and veterans.

Creating a Ukrainian Foodtech Cluster

Alongside the launch of the IFAD initiative, Ukraine is beginning to form its own foodtech cluster modeled after the Dutch Food Valley. This project is being implemented by the development company Alterra Group in collaboration with partners based on the “Formation” network of industrial parks. Its main goal is to help Ukrainian businesses transition from raw material supply to the production of finished goods with high added value.

The new cluster will unite food producers, technology companies, startups, and research centers in one area, which will help reduce infrastructure costs and accelerate the implementation of innovations in Ukraine’s food industry.
