How long to keep utility payment receipts

Utility payment receipts for services such as electricity, gas, and water should be kept for at least five years. This is because they can be useful in resolving potential disputes with service providers.

It is noted that although the statute of limitations for such disputes is three years from the time the issue arises, providers may prolong the review period. To avoid unforeseen situations, it is better to have all documents on hand.

“To resolve conflicts in your favor, it is advisable to keep utility payment receipts, which will serve as evidence in court. The regulations do not specify exact timeframes for how long utility payment receipts should be kept. However, experienced lawyers recommend keeping them for five years,” the message states.

Additionally, receipts may be needed in other situations, for example, if there are failures in the data storage system or if payment information was lost and improperly restored.

Having a receipt will also help in case of confusion with payments, which can occur due to changes in tariffs or errors by company employees.

Utility tariffs in Ukraine in April

In April, Ukrainians will continue to pay for electricity at the old tariffs, which are 4.32 UAH per 1 kWh. As for gas, the annual tariffs remain unchanged – customers of Naftogaz, who make up 98% of all consumers, will pay 7.96 UAH per cubic meter.

“For this heating season, the tariffs for heat and light, as we promised, remain unchanged. In the budget for 2025, 42.3 billion UAH is allocated for the subsidy and benefits program, which will support all Ukrainians in need,” said Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

According to Shmyhal’s comments, after the heating season ends (April 30), utility tariffs in Ukraine will remain at the previous level, as the government does not plan to raise utility prices in the near future. “There is no discussion in the government regarding tariffs. We have not considered the possibility of raising tariffs anytime soon,” he added.
