Harvest in Ukraine 2025: Harvesting Rates Lag Behind Last Year’s Figures

As of July 25, Ukrainian farmers have harvested 10.347 million tons of early grains and legumes, showing a significant lag compared to last year’s results. For comparison, this figure was 7.226 million tons a week earlier. The largest share of the total volume is wheat — 7.088 million tons, followed by barley — 2.792 million tons and peas — 412.4 thousand tons. Among the regions, Odesa Oblast leads with a yield of 2.5 million tons.

Current Situation with Grain and Oilseed Harvesting

As of July 26, 2025, the total volume of the new harvest in Ukraine has reached 22.324 million tons, of which 19 million tons are grains and over 3 million tons are oilseeds. In particular, 14.7 million tons of wheat have been harvested. Analysts predict that this year’s sunflower production will not exceed 13.6–13.7 million tons, which is only 7% more compared to 2024.

Impact of Weather on Sunflower Harvest

Experts note that unfavorable weather conditions negatively affect the yield potential of sunflowers, especially in the southern and eastern regions, where up to 50% of the area under this crop is located. A cool spring, critically low soil moisture reserves, and insufficient rainfall in these regions have created challenging conditions for crop development.

Compensating for crop losses in the south and east may be the expected better sunflower yields in the center, as well as in the west and north of Ukraine.

Despite the challenging climatic circumstances, farmers hope for a stabilization of the situation due to more favorable yields in the central, western, and northern regions of the country.
