EU exports electricity to Ukraine at full capacity amid Russian attacks

The European Union continues its comprehensive energy support for Ukraine in the face of ongoing Russian attacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure. According to European Commission spokesperson Eva Grinchirova, the EU is not only exporting electricity at maximum capacity but also providing significant humanitarian and financial assistance to protect the civilian population.

Financial and humanitarian assistance from the EU

According to the European Commission, the European Union has already allocated 1.2 billion euros for humanitarian support to Ukraine. These funds are aimed at ensuring the protection of the civilian population and organizing the delivery of aid. Within the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, approximately 160,000 tons of humanitarian aid have been delivered, including generators, heating points, heating appliances, and other equipment that helps sustain the livelihoods of Ukrainians during the challenging energy crisis.

Additionally, the International Fund for Assistance to Ukraine, known as the Ukraine Facility, has been activated for emergency gas purchases, which has already mobilized around 927 million euros. This support helps ensure the stability of the energy sector and strengthens the heating season in Ukraine.

The European Union is exporting electricity to Ukraine at maximum capacity to help the country cope with the consequences of Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure. The European Commission spokesperson emphasized that this support from the EU is continuous, and cooperation with Ukrainian authorities and international partners remains close.

“We have allocated 1.2 billion euros for humanitarian assistance to protect the civilian population and deliver aid. This includes about 160,000 tons of assistance through our Civil Protection Mechanism. We are providing warmth to Ukrainians by supplying generators, heating points, heating appliances, and more. Assistance is also being mobilized through the International Fund for Assistance to Ukraine, the Ukraine Facility. This is about 927 million euros for emergency gas purchases,” the spokesperson stated.

Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction, Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba reported that Kyiv expects additional generation sources in the near future to ensure uninterrupted heating and electricity supply in critically important areas of the city.

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Ministry of Energy, is initiating the conduct of an “Energy Ramstein” to attract maximum support from international partners to overcome the energy crisis in Ukraine.
