An explosion occurred in the military garrison of the village of Knyazi-Volkonskoye-1 in the Khabarovsk region, resulting in one death and several injuries. Details of the Incident and Possible Consequences
According to information from open sources, the explosive device was planted in a mailbox on the landing of a residential building located within the military garrison. After the explosion, personnel were put on alert, and the incident was classified. There is currently no independent confirmation of this information, and no official statements from the Russian authorities regarding the incident have been received.
The condition of Omurbekov himself remains unknown. Meanwhile, sources report that during the explosion, Lieutenant Colonel Kuzmenko — the commander of the training communications battalion — was killed, and several others were injured.
“Major General Azatbek Omurbekov, also known as the ‘Butcher of Bucha’, has been in charge of the 392nd District Training Center of the Eastern Military District since 2023. He previously commanded the 64th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, which participated in battles in the Kyiv region in the spring of 2022. Ukrainian authorities and several investigative projects link the unit to the killings of civilians in Bucha. Omurbekov’s role is also mentioned in a documentary investigation by Radio Free Europe, authored by journalist Dmytro Zhulai.”
Omurbekov’s Role and the Reaction of the International Community
Azatbek Omurbekov earned the nickname ‘Butcher of Bucha’ due to the actions of the unit he commanded during the occupation of Bucha by Russian troops in 2022. According to Ukrainian authorities and international investigators, the 64th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade is implicated in mass killings of civilians.
Following these events, Omurbekov was awarded the title of Hero of Russia and was also sanctioned by the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In the summer of 2022, a serviceman from the same brigade, Danilo Frolkin, publicly admitted to the murder of a civilian in the Kyiv region and stated that Omurbekov issued harsh orders and falsified information about the situation at the front. Frolkin was later convicted in Russia for ‘fake news’.
