Demand for Workers in Ukraine: Who Employers Are Looking for the Most

In Ukraine, there is the highest demand for skilled workers and specialists with higher education, including drivers, locksmiths, accountants, doctors, and engineers. These categories remain the most in demand in the labor market due to the complexity of training and a lack of personnel, as indicated by information from the State Employment Service.

The labor market in Ukraine continues to transform under the influence of war, emigration, economic adaptation of businesses, and changes in demand for labor. Thanks to the Unified Job Portal, which publishes around 230,000 job offers daily, the State Employment Service has identified the most sought-after professions. Analysts highlight four main categories:

  • workers in the trade and service sectors;
  • skilled workers;
  • professionals with higher education;
  • unskilled workers.

Growth of Job Vacancies in Trade and Service Sectors

The trade and service sectors remain a stable source of jobs. Employers most often seek sellers, administrators, cooks, baristas, waiters, and sales representatives. The high turnover of staff in this sector creates a constant demand for new workers. Vacancies in this category usually do not require higher education, but communication skills, endurance, and readiness for a mixed work schedule are necessary. Salaries range from 10,000 to 18,000 UAH, depending on the region and experience.

Labor Shortage in Skilled Trades

Skilled trades have traditionally been the backbone of the economy, but today there is the most acute labor shortage in this area. The most in-demand professions include drivers, locksmiths, electricians, seamstresses, and assemblers. These specialties require specific technical education or completion of courses; however, the emigration of a significant number of such workers abroad, a lack of vocational education, and outdated material resources in educational institutions lead to a decrease in the number of new personnel in the market.

Salaries for such positions, especially in large cities or in logistics, can exceed 25,000 UAH, making them attractive to young people ready to acquire a profession.

In the category of professionals with higher education, employers most need accountants, engineers, doctors, teachers, technologists, and economists. These specialists are in demand in almost all sectors, from medicine to construction and IT. However, despite stable demand, finding such specialists is quite challenging due to the duration and high cost of training, as well as competition from the international labor market.

“Many specialists have gone abroad or switched to remote work for foreign companies.”

Salaries in this group vary greatly: an experienced accountant in Kyiv can earn over 30,000 UAH, while a doctor can earn up to 40,000 UAH, although in the regions these amounts are usually lower. Among unskilled workers, the demand for loaders, cleaners, and laborers remains stable, as there is always a need for people for physical work. However, the low level of pay, starting from 8,000 to 10,000 UAH, hinders the attraction of new workers, especially in the context of rising prices and competition with labor markets abroad. Experts advise employers to invest in employee training, develop internal courses, and establish partnerships with educational institutions, while job seekers should pay attention to specialties with long-term prospects: technical, engineering, medical, and educational professions remain consistently in demand.
