Countries Seeking to Retain Ukrainian Refugees in Europe

European countries are showing significant interest in retaining Ukrainian refugees on their territory. This was reported by migration policy expert Andriy Haidutskyi. He noted that this is particularly true for countries that have realized that without attracting immigrants, they will have to close most of their production facilities. This primarily concerns the Scandinavian countries.

At the same time, Haidutskyi emphasizes that the situation in Hungary and Poland is somewhat different. There is still a negative attitude towards foreign workers here, and Ukrainians have certain advantages when it comes to hiring. However, Eastern EU countries are experiencing a significant shortage of inexpensive labor, and therefore are actively preparing their populations for a multicultural society by simplifying legislation for foreigners. This particularly applies to Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia.

The expert also believes that after Germany halts its financial support, part of the more than 1.2 million Ukrainian refugees may move to other countries where the cost of living is lower. It is worth noting that Germany is already planning to reduce the annual number of asylum applications to 100,000, as well as to strengthen deportations and suspend the family reunification program.
