Comparison with Poland and Other Educational Professions
In Poland, a teacher’s salary depends on their category and experience, ranging from 5,000 to 7,300 zlotys, equivalent to 57,000–83,000 UAH. This gap indicates a significant difference in the pay of educators between the two countries.
Preschool educators in Ukraine have a slightly higher median salary than teachers. In 2025, it rose to 14,500 UAH, which is 11.5% more than in 2024 (13,000 UAH). During this period, the number of responses to educator job vacancies increased by 12%, while the number of postings rose by 20%.
Tutors mostly work on an hourly basis. On average, they earn 400 UAH per hour, which is 33% more than in 2024 (300 UAH/hour). The demand for tutoring services has also grown: the number of responses increased by 78%, and the number of postings rose by 23%.
Salaries in Education Compared to the National Average
Despite the increase in earnings in the education sector, they remain significantly lower than the average salary in Ukraine. According to the State Statistics Service, in July 2025, the average salary in the country was 26,499 UAH — more than double the average income of teachers.
Interestingly, even with low salaries, the number of people willing to work as teachers or educators is increasing. Experts note that this is related not only to financial but also to social motivations of candidates.
“The situation with teacher salaries today appears critical. The low level of remuneration creates a risk of staff turnover and a decline in the quality of education. This is especially dangerous in wartime conditions, when teachers fulfill not only an educational but also a social mission: they support children, instill a sense of safety and stability in them, and play a key role in strengthening national identity. Therefore, a predictable and fair reward system must become an issue not only of social policy but also of national security,” said Maria Abdullina, head of the OLX Work department.
