The agricultural company ‘Zakhidny Buh’, which owns significant assets in western Ukraine, has begun implementing a large-scale investment project worth 1 billion hryvnias. The company is building the first mill in Ukraine that will specialize exclusively in processing durum wheat, as well as a modern pasta factory.

Development Strategy and Innovations in Processing
The goal of ‘Zakhidny Buh’ is to achieve a production level that will allow the company to become the Ukrainian equivalent of the famous Italian Barilla — a leader in the production of pasta made from 100% durum wheat. The company adopted its own course towards deepening the processing of its raw materials back in 2019. Initially, it was planned to organize the processing of both soft and durum wheat at one mill, but in 2024 the concept was changed to focus on durum. Specialized equipment has been purchased for this purpose, which opens up the possibility of significantly increasing the production volumes of high-quality flour for pasta products.
Launch Plans and Sales Markets
The opening of the pasta factory is scheduled for September, and the launch of the mill is set for October of this year. At the first stage, the enterprise will be able to process 80 tons of durum wheat per day. To ensure stable raw material supplies, ‘Zakhidny Buh’ is implementing a contract farming program in collaboration with farmers.
The produced flour is primarily planned for export to the European market, where there is a high demand for products made from durum wheat. A portion of the flour will also remain for the domestic market — it will be used for the production of a premium line of pasta products.
