At this moment, the center of the Sun will be directly above the Earth’s equator, ensuring nearly equal lengths of day and night for both hemispheres of the planet. Consequently, neither hemisphere will be tilted more towards the Sun, and the entire planet will receive an equal amount of sunlight.

The term “equinox” has Latin origins: “aequus” means “equal,” and “nox” means “night.” Thus, the equinox literally translates to “equal night.” During this period, the daylight portion of the day begins to gradually increase, continuing until the summer solstice, which falls on June 21.
