US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has called on the European Union to completely cease the use of energy resources from Russia, including the import of oil products from Turkey and India, which continue to purchase Russian oil.

US insists on changing EU energy policy
According to Wright, Europe needs to import American energy resources worth about $250 billion annually over the next three years. Although this amount is considered “unrealistic” by many experts, the Secretary is convinced that about 66% of this volume can be achieved through a complete rejection of Russian energy resources. Special emphasis is placed on limiting the supply of oil products from Turkey and India, which remain the main buyers of Russian raw materials.
“The European Union must completely abandon Russian energy resources, including halting imports from Turkey and India, which continue to buy Russian oil.”
Europe’s strategy: cooperation with India and Britain’s caution
Despite pressure from the US, the EU plans to expand cooperation with India to diversify trade and strengthen its global influence. Brussels aims to finalize a free trade agreement with India this year and is considering the possibility of establishing a security and defense partnership.
At the same time, the United Kingdom is skeptical about US President Donald Trump’s initiative to impose increased tariffs—ranging from 50% to 100%—against China and India for their cooperation with Russia in the oil sector. This approach raises concerns among British politicians, who see risks for economic relations and international trade.
