Reasons for Halting Gas Supplies to Ukraine

According to Orban, the Ukrainian side is blocking the operation of the Druzhba pipeline, which affects Hungary’s energy stability. He noted that until the oil transit is restored, all gas remaining in Hungary will be stored in national reserves to meet domestic needs.

“Gas supplies from Hungary to Ukraine will be gradually halted, and the volume of gas that remains in Hungary will be stored in Hungary,” Orban stated.

Hungary Strengthens Energy Security

The Prime Minister emphasized that the issue of the country’s energy security is coming to the forefront. Orban stated the need to create additional gas reserves for national needs, as, according to him, Ukraine is not only blocking oil transit but also attacking the southern gas pipeline through which gas flows into Hungary. The government plans to consider the relevant proposal at the next meeting.

Viktor Orban also stressed the importance of maintaining low fuel prices for Hungarian citizens, adding that Hungary will continue to strive to break the oil blockade and ensure secure energy supplies for the country.
